Edition Sixty Four
A bunch of black and white photos.
16:9
Versatile and a comfort to our eyes. We have been looking at stuff in landscape mode long before we become addicted to the world of the portrait view forced onto us by modern technology.
I’ve always enjoyed the wider view when it comes to photos. More expressive, shows more of what is happening.
In an attempt to get myself out there to take more photos I decided to share some of the images I capture. Different images & edits but all have one thing in common: a 16:9 crop ratio. On my favorite images I’ll elaborate a little bit and give some backstory on it.
A simple newsletter focusing more on my photography. Perhaps this is something I should have done from the beginning but hindsight is 20/20 : )
Black and whites.
Monochrome images have always interested me a lot more than color.
I won’t deny the place of color images within photography but black and white, for me at least, hits different. I could rattle of words like timeless, dramatic, nostalgia but I won’t.
My favorite image of this set happened on a rainy morning. While I waited at my usual hangout before work I spotted a few vehicles passing by. Some people love the taxi but more people hate it - there are only these two camps no in-between.
Taxis have become the most used form of public transportation. Short to long distances the prices is a lot more affordable than something like Bolt or Uber. The problem with taxis are they tend to get involved in plenty of controversy.
Taxi violence, battles between different taxi operators over routes. Disregarding traffic rules. Overloading vehicles. The list is endless when it comes to transgressions taxi drivers commit.
People dislike their actions and behavior. Yet we cannot ignore their necessity when it comes to public transport. Nor should be judge all drivers based on the actions of a few bad apples.
The idea of motion (of the taxi) gets conveyed in the contrast of the bicycle in the front, stationary. There is a little bit of motion blur captured but you’d have to look closer to the rear of the taxi to see it. The pole where my bicycle is leaning also acts as a barrier - between public and private transport. For many people taxis are the only means to and from where they need to go.
The remaining photos.
All images captured using my mobile phone, a Samsung A10. Edited in Snapseed.
Before you go…

Hi Richard, what you write about the photo with the bicycle and the taxi dividing viewers into two camps, I can understand immediately; without the taxi, it would look quieter, but the taxi suits the intended theme (if I got that right) better, although it may be aesthetically less pleasing. I also like Rocky the cat; he looks like a boss, guarding the shop. Where were these photos taken?
